Stupid other doctors

I don't give a fuck what your religion is. But if you pretend to be an OB-GYN and refuse to give OCPs for ANY cause (including treatment of laparoscopic biopsy proven endometriosis) because "My religion doesn't believe in birth control" then you are an idiot and a danger to patients.

Period.

OTOH, thank-you for adding several patients to MY practice.

So a urologist who posts a political sign gets national news coverage, and he's not even denying anyone care. I don't understand why anyone would put up with this OB...the practice, hospital, community, etc. Unless if her primary patient core are women who belong to a similar religion.

@Meghan - I don't know either. She's located several towns over. I've never met her.

This is inappropriate. I've even heard of docs waiting to tell their patients that their baby has a congenital anomaly until they are past 24 weeks. Personal beliefs aside, giving your patient all options that are best for their well being is always most important.

I've wondered this before, with pharmacists and other medical professionals too...why get into this field if your "beliefs" conflict with the work?
Keep your religion off my body.

This makes me so upset. I live in a small town that has only one ob/gyn. He refuses to prescribe bc. He refused even though I'm on medications (methotrexate)that cause severe birth defects. He also yelled at me for eating cheese. That was my one and only visit. I opted to drive an hour.

As a medical student, I agree. We have this problem in the UK, too (though possibly to a lesser extent), and I just think its incredibly selfish. Hey, WE chose medicine. We CHOOSE the speciality we go into, it is up to us to pick a field which fits with both our skills and what we want out of life and the kind of doctor we want to be.

If an integral part of a job is something you're uncomfortable with, do another job. It's simply a no-brainer.

I just feel that you have no right, when that job is providing necessary care to patients, to pick and choose what you offer and leave patients stranded without care they're entitled to. Because the risk that patients aren't getting care they're entitled to, especially when that translates into family planning choices, for me weighs more heavily than the right of any med student to pick any particular field.

There's the rest of medicine to pick from - either suck it up and do your job or do something else.
