Any questions?

Patient, upon being asked if she planned to stop smoking cigarettes: But I stopped the crystal meth! What more do you want?

I have to admit, I didn't have a comeback for THAT one.

Progress is measured in increments. I see you didn't even ask about more serious drugs, like Diet Coke.

And my doc told me to stop...I haven't listened so far. ;)

Ah, I figure my job is give the peds the data they need...I recognize that the month I interact with some folks doesn't even come close to adequate care.

yeah, my MIL has emphysema and lung cancer, diabetes, plus a host of other problems and she refuses to stop smoking. They said she doesn't even have 8 months if she doesn't stop smoking, and 14-16 months if she does stop. She refuses to stop or slow down much.

I give her a year though, she is a stubborn woman and with all the health problems she has and the fact that she is morbidly obese all her doctors say she should have died 3-4 years ago. So she is stubborn and I think they are underestimating how long she can fight.
So smoking is a hard habit to quit...even if it is your own life at stake.
