So a patient shows up onto L&D. By golly, she was in labor so I kept her.
She called her husband, who is a contractor.
His response?
BTW, she did not think highly of it...
"But I got concrete coming!"

I have a friend that went very quickly once her labor started. With her first child it was 35 minutes after her water broke.
With #2 her water broke and she rushed to hospital as someone went to find her farmer husband. The old small town dr met her there and took one look and sent her to the delivery room.
She protested, "But my husband's not here!"
Doc looked up and said, "His part is done. All we need now is you and me."
May be how contractor husband thinks!
But it's CONCRETE!
Concrete waits for no one. If it is anything like concrete around here, it is expensive and tough to get on the schedule.
Plus, the big money parts of the project can't start until the concrete is poured.
I understand why Mom was upset, but I can appreciate Dad's reaction.
On the way to the hospital to have my daughter my husband had the nerve to ask me, "Geez, why are you so cranky?" Mind you, I had been contracting for about a day and a half with accompanying back labor.....
A lot of men don't get it right.
When I went into labour with my first child, all my husband could think to say was 'But we've got tickets for the football semi final!'
Then he kept on asking the doctor if I would be done in time for him to watch the replay on tv instead.
He's not as much as of an asshole as this might make him appear, and he would always choose to be with me. Just he has no sense of appropriate timings in situations of stress. I've dined out on this story for years.
