My ladder is rated to hold up to 250 pounds. It should easily support 160 pounds, even if a disproportionate amount of that weight is a pregnant belly. A ladder is much more sturdy than the other height-boosters available (a folding chair or wobbly table).
Yeah, I was doing that cause my husband is too afraid of heights. Didn't fall tho. Wish I could tell you I'm no longer that dumb, but I'm still married to him.
One of the OB's that I work with had a patient who wanted to go deer hunting (in a tree stand) when she was 35 weeks pregnant. The OB's response, "Uhhhh, NO."

Pregnant women's center of balance is off from normal. That's why we don't recommend exercises that rely on balance as the belly grows.
There is nothing so important that it can't wait. Painting definitely falls into that category.
