Dear OR Gods

Thank you for the awesome day! My favorite assists, interesting cases, ABBA in the background...

I left my first case with a BIG grin on my face and a real sense of accomplishment. This is what surgery at its best is - healing with steel. It wasn't an easy case, but it was a fun one, challenging in the right way. And my patient will feel better than before.

A win for all involved. The two assists (vag hyst) were both saying that is what they love.

That’s the way to have a great day. I remember how much better I felt after my hyst in 1986. New worlds opened to me and that dang pain, well....it went away.

your assists must love you, because a vag hyst is about the most boring case ever to assist on. or perhaps it was laparoscopy aided....

And as she wakes up she remembers to mention her bleeding problem.

Or worse, you open up the patient and discover a prostate.

And Grumpy - in my OR, disposable means disposable.

Yes, Anon, the assists do like me. As do the OR crew and L&D staff.

Why? Because I'm nice to them. I know their names, ask about their kids (Mary's son was in a bad car accident, Kelly's daughter just got married, etc), and occasionally bring in homemade cookies for them. My room is always a fun one and people want to be in my room, even if it is a vag hyst or I'm having trouble with a case.

It's not hard to treat people well.

mom- i agree with your comments completely. a day in the or can be and should be pleasant for all. people work better together that way. yet some struggle and rage to no good end.
